Arcade Boards
Here's a list of all the boards I currently own, this section also contains information about board settings for setting up stereo outputs and some 600dpi scans of the Operator Manuals, I hope to translate all the manuals at some point in the future.

Looks like instruction on how to play the game as well as the game story, strange as only the arcade operator would see this.

Stereo output from Konami games
Most of the Konami game boards support stereo sound output but as JAMMA was designed for mono only, the sound output comes out of a different connector on the board, luckily Konami uses the same connector all the boards I own and probably many others.
The connector used is a 4 way JST connector, an idiot proof connector that can only be connected one way.
- Manufacturer - JST
- Code Number - B4P-SHF-1AA
Sorry my mistake, the above code number which is shown on the arcade boards is for the socket, what you need is the plug listed below.
- Manufacturer - JST
- Code Number - H4P-SHF-AA
I've found that RS Japan sell the items for 14円 each (minimum order of ten) (£0.11 pence each).
You also need the crimp connector that goes into the housing, 350円 (£2.75) for a bag of 50 (enough to do 12.5 - 4way connectors).
I need 20 connectors (to cover all future boards).
I've found a place in the UK selling these connector's, it's a Sega specialist but that doesn't matter.
http://www.giz10p.co.uk/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=241 - £0.55p each, not too bad, don't forget the crimp connectors as they are ordered separately.
Connector, Nylon, for wires, contacts, BHF-001T-0.8BS, Plug housing (for socket contact)
Stereo Boards
Jumper Block to switch between Mono and Stereo
Some of the games require a jumper block to be moved between MONO and STEREO, then sound comes out of an extra connector.
Note: Do not connect the jumper block output directly to speakers or plug both MONO and STEREO in at once (if you had a second jumper block) as this would be bad, these connector are only for selecting the two types of audio, not the audio output itself, think of it like a switch to switch between the two different outputs.
Konami used the same connector for all three connectors, so be careful.
Board shown - Gradius II GOFER no Yabou
Here's an example scanned from the original UK Operator's Manual for Salamander.
- Salamander (沙羅曼蛇)
- JAMMA Mono output, plug jumper into CN3 MONO
- CN5 Stereo output, plug jumper into CN2 STEREO
- Life Force (ライフフォース)
- Unknown, probably the same as Salamander
- Gradius II GOFER no Yabou (グラディウスII ~GOFERの野望~)
- JAMMA Mono output, plug jumper into CN6 MONO
- CN8 Stereo output, plug jumper into CN7 STEREO
- Parodius da! -Shinwa kara o-warai e- (パロディウスだ! ー神話からお笑いへー)
- JAMMA Mono output, plug jumper into CN2 MONO
- CN4 SOUND OUT Stereo, plug jumper into CN3 STEREO
DIP SW setting between Mono and Stereo
Konami later changed to use DIP Switch settings to change between MONO and STEREO instead of jumper blocks, here's an excerpt out of the Operators Manual of TwinBee Yahho-! ~Fushigi no Kuni de Ooabare!!~
Note: All the GX Board's listed have the same DIP SW setting for switching between Mono and Stereo, nice and straight forward.

- Sexy Parodius (セクシーパロディウス)
- SOUND OUT CN2 Stereo output
- XEXEX (ゼクセクス)
- SOUND OUT CN5 Stereo output (I will have to double check this)
No extra settings required
As this was a dedicated machine only, it is a JAMMA board but I it doesn't output audio at all from the JAMMA connector, sound must come from somewhere else on the board.
- Solar Assault Gradius (ソーラーアサルトグラディウス)
- CN13 for stereo output
- Solar Assault Revised (ソーラーアサルトリバイスド)
- CN13 for stereo output
Unknown at this time
- Detana!! TwinBee (出たな!!ツインビー)
- Has the connector output and two volumes knobs, but no DIP switches or jumper block on the board, this may be done in the test menu, I will have to check this at a later date.
- SOUND OUT CN1 Stereo
- Gradius IV ~Fukkatsu~ (グラディウスIV~復活~)
- The connector is on the JVS-JAMMA conversion board but no DIP switch settings known or jumper block to move, may be in the test menu with settings stored in the CMOS.
- SOUND OUT CN5 Stereo (this is on the JVS-JAMMA daughter board)
I'm in the process of translating the Japanese Operator's Manual for Gradius IV ~Fukkatsu~ to see if they mention the sound output options.
I only have a partial Operator's Manual for Detana!! TwinBee and the pages I have make no mention about the Stereo option, UPDATE, I now have the original Operators Manual and will check the settings.
What no stereo!!!
The biggest surprise for me is Gradius III ~Densetsu kara Shinwa~ has no option for stereo at all, this game has some wonderful tunes, even though games that came out before and after it do include stereo.
Konami games missing from my collection
Gradius (Standard ROM)
グラディウス
- One sold recently, quite rare and costs a bomb, it sold for 403000円 (this is about £3147 or $4859 at current exchange rates!!!).
- I just saw a second one go for almost twice the above prices, looks like I wont be getting one of these for a long time.
Life Force (Japan)
ライフフォース
- Available but quite expensive.
Life Force (US Version)
- Shouldn't be too hard to find.
TwinBee (Bubble Memory)
ツインビー
- Working version sold in 2011 for over £600.
TwinBee (Standard ROM)
ツインビー
- Never seen one for sale and I don't know if Konami even made one.
Solar Assault Gradius
ソーラーアサルトグラディウス
- Wow, I have no room for a complete machine, upright or cockpit
- A board with the controls recently sold for just under a £1000.
Solar Assault Revised
ソーラーアサルトリバイスド
- Wow, I have no room for a complete machine, upright or cockpit.
Otomedius
オトメディウス
- Seen them for sale (for a reasonable £600 price too) but the cost of shipping from Japan and problems with the e-Amusement system would make the game unplayable, get the Xbox 360 version instead!!!
