The Federal Government of Gradius has erected large defenses against the invaders. However, under continuous attack by the energy of the Dark Force, the defenders are on the verge of collapse.

Beyond the infinite wall of darkness lies the unexplored and vast Galaxy. This universal wasteland witnesses the re-birth of Bacterion, the mysterious, evil being and his return to power. Now Bacterion and Dark Force have concluded a deadly alliance and commenced their final, great assault. Dark Force is an energy mass possessing power of immense proportions. Anything in its path is immediately destroyed. The shadow of their conquest lengthens relentlessly over all the planets around the Gradius star leaving only Gradius conquered. The Federal Government of Gradius has erected large defenses against the invaders. However, under continuous attack by the energy of the Dark Force, the defenders are on the verge of callapse. Gradius' last hope is the super-fighter "VIC VIPER". The fate of not only Gradius but the entire universe is in their hands.
