Manfrotto Tripod Carry Strap Loop.

What Does It Do: The idea is that it attaches to the Manfrotto tripod low height adapter using the 3/8"-16 tpi UNC, that is usually used to house the camera mounting head, (Pan & Tilt head) which is in turn connected to the aluminium center column. There is already a strap loop fitting at the top part of the tripods main construction which appears to be inbuilt as standard. This adapter provides a loop for the strap to fit to at the opposite end of the tripod making it easier to carry around. Component Parts: Pretty much a simple turning and milling job with a single aluminium component part as the end result. Turning: Starting off with a 30mm diameter bar of aluminium a ball end is turned onto the bar blending in to a 20mm diameter. The front of the 20mm diameter is then drilled and tapped 3/8" UNC to a depth of 15mm. The component is now parted off to leave a diameter 20mm flat at the ball end. Milling: Using a cutter with a 45 degree approach cutting edge, each side of the component at the ball end is machined away equally from either side until the center is 5mm thick. A 10mm wide chamfered slot is then machined in the same end from either side creating the loop that the strap will fit to.

Low Height Adapter: The low height adapter is a component that is included with the Manfrotto 190 CX3 Tripod and is an integral part of the center column, (see article on the Tripods page). It is the threaded part of this component that the homemade carry strap loop adapter is going to screw on to.
