Sony Cybershot DSC-S90.

I was given this camera along with another one to try out as a little project on my motorbike, (a "Yamaha FZ600 Fazer S2") as a video camera rather than using it as a conventional camera for taking photographs. The idea was to make some sort of mounting bracket behind the screen and capture video footage as I rode along.

Unfortunately there are a few flaws with using it as a video capture device as it kept on shutting down whilst in use. I think this is down to either to much vibration or a problem with the auto focus system when traveling at speed.

The camera was only "bodge" mounted on the handlebar clamp using cable ties and a few wooden wedges for alignment and I did get some reasonable footage but I guess a better more rigid mounting system is required.

The camera can still be used as a normal camera and it doesnt take to bad a picture. Using this camera is easy as it is a point and shoot camera but it also carries enough adjustable settings to allow the user to customise how the picture is taken, there are also numerous preset mode settings selectable from the top dial for various conditions.

The camera body is made mainly out of plastic but despite this there is a nice solid feel to the camera, being plastic obviously reduces weight compared to cameras made of metal.

Like the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W1 this camera takes 2 AA bateries to make it work. Using 2 Ni-MH 2100 mAh rechargeable batteries they last for ages on a single charge but if you are constantly zooming in and out the usage time drops to about half. All said and done though the usage time is still pretty impressive.
