KBC VR3 Fusion Full Face Crash Helmet Right Hand View (When Being Worn).

Cost £99.99

My missus was drawn to this particular brand of helmet for two reasons. Firstly it was the vast amount of them that were in a sale in the store, (Harpers Motorcycle Clothing and Accessories LTD located in Southend On Sea, Essex). Secondly because it had "sparkly bits" in the design. To be honest I had never heard of KBC before but as it turns out they are an American company that has been around for some time so should be OK to get spares when required. Reduced in the sale from £159.99 to £99.99 it seemed a reasonable price for a first crash helmet when you are putting a kit together on a budget.

Donated By Matt & Kristy.

Once again I found myself on the scrounge when my wife decided she wanted to experience what it was like to be a pillion passenger. Not having any "ladies size" protective gear I had to borrow some from a friend, (thanks Matt). Anyhow the jacket which is made by Hein Gericke, (so a pretty good make) has been kindly donated as it is not used by my friends wife anymore.

Stella SP-8 Gloves:

Cost £54.99

The trouble with my wife's hands is that they are somewhat small and all the donated gloves we have tried just pull off with no trouble even when they are adjusted to their full tightness, so we had to bite the bullet and see about getting some proper ladies motorcycle gloves. I have been a fan of Alpinestars gloves ever since I got my Alpinestars Vega Drystar waterproof gloves and my wife liked the styling of these Stella SP-8's. I was a bit dubious about them at first as they only have a single Velcro wrist adjustment but once they are on and done up they are not coming off in a hurry which is what you want! The downside is they are expensive compared to some other brands and I am sure you are only paying more for the name!

Features:

Leather with synthetic Polyurethane main construction.
Moulded Polyurethane knuckle protection.
Foam padding on fingers, hand and wrist bone with Spandex wrist inserts.
Elasticated wrist with Velcro adjustable cuff flap closure.
Ergonomic palm reinforcements and pre-curved finger construction.

Red Route Boot Cut
Ladies Draggin Jeans:

Cost £89.99

Wanting jeans rather than waterproof leather or textile trousers my missus opted for these Red Route boot cut Kevlar dragging jeans which offer up more protection in an incident than normal run of the mill jeans. They come complete with CE approved knee protectors which can be removed from the special knee pockets if desired, (not that you would want to). Obviously these jeans are not waterproof so not much use in a downpour but on nice days the provide more freedom than waterproof outfits.

Features:

Kevlar lining at all the major impact points. Click For Larger Image.

OxSocks thermal socks from Oxford.

Cost £13.99

The OxSocks from Oxford claim to be cushioned in the important areas to prevent bruising. Made from a combination of natural fibres which are supposed to minimise discomfort through extended use. Having full length shin padding they are ideal for use with boots or shoes. Although the socks are thermal they are quite comfortable in all weather conditions depending on how long they are worn and with what type of footwear.

Features:

Self adjusting cuff. Hein Gericke Logo.
Oxford Logo
Web Site Link.
Padded shin area.
Achilles tendon support.
Moisture wicking material.
Ankle support band.
Seamless toe bumper & cushioned sole.

TCX X-Cube
Water Resistant Boots:

TCX X-Cube ladies water resistant motorcycle boots.

Cost £99.99

Not wanting a full length motorcycle boot my missus decided to go for the more "shoe" looking TCX X-Cube water resistant boots thinking it looked better with her dragging jeans. Not being a style guru and knowing the right time to argue the odds about protection I had to bite my lip. That said they obviously have been designed with motorcycle safety in mind so are more useful than a pair of trainers! Once again I have never heard of the make before but on investigation they have been around for a while and do seem to be rather popular.

Features:

Comfort fit system:
The upper is shaped to reproduce the anatomy of the human foot.
Suede leather and Air Tech fabric upper, new design oil and petrol resistant sole.
Water resistant lining with removable anatomic foot bed.
Malleous protections and polyurethane ankle support.
Speed lacing system with touch fastening band.

Cost About £170.

The other half wanted a jacket that was a bit more, (how should I put it) "stylish" that was more suited to the feminine form. Keeping a low profile in the shop, (Harpers of Leigh-On-Sea) I let her decide what she wanted so there could be no arguments later. What she opted for was the Rev'it "Siren" textile jacket that has four different set up arrangements as it has two removable liners. Firstly there is a thermal quilted liner (click the picture for a larger image).
Rev'it "Siren" thermal quilted liner.

Secondly there is a waterproof liner, (see picture below). You can fit them in any combination that you wish. Just the jacket with no liners at all, jacket and thermal quilted liner only, jacket and waterproof liner only, or jacket with both quilted and thermal liners together. This means there are rather a lot of zips, press studs and velcro to contend with and the liners need to be fitted in the right order. There is a nice large rear pocket in the jacket should you wish to remove the liners and take them with you. There are numerous zips that reveal air vents should you want more airflow on a hot day.
