Keymem Compact Flash
Memory Card:

I purchased this Compact Flash memory card to gain a bit of extra storage space for my Olympus E-500 DSLR so I did not need to keep changing memory cards over so often when taking pictures in RAW mode.
Shooting in Olympus RAW mode, (ORF) with this card gave me about 240 shots and shooting in SHQ, (Super High Quality JPEG) mode I got about 530 shots which was quite a step up from the capacity of the 1 Gigabyte card that came with the camera. Costing around £15 it was not exactly a bank breaker either, the only down side is the relatively low write speed compared to some other brands.

Memory Card Specifications:

Card Type: Compact Flash.
Manufacturer: Keymem.
Memory Capacity: 4 Gigabytes.
Write Speed: 52 Times (8 MB/second approximately).
Dimensions: 42.5mm x 36.5mm x 4.0mm approximately.
Used With: Olympus E-500 & E-510 DSLR.

Lexar Compact Flash
Memory Card:

This card came supplied with the Olympus E-500 DSLR Camera as part of a kit that Curry's had thrown together in one of their deals. As it turns out it is of reasonably good specification, with a write speed of 20 Megabytes per second it is on a par with some more expensive brands of Compact Flash memory cards.
Being technically a free-bee is the reason it is only 1 Gigabyte in capacity although I was able to squeeze about 60 shots In Olympus RAW mode onto this card. At the time had I bought it separately these cards where priced at around £25.

Memory Card Specifications:

Card Type: Compact Flash.
Manufacturer: Lexar.
Memory Capacity: 1 Gigabyte.
Write Speed: 133 Times (20 MB/second approximately).
Dimensions: 42.5mm x 36.5mm x 4.0mm approximately.
Used With: Olympus E-500 & E-510 DSLR.

Sandisc Compact Flash
Memory Card:

Having purchased the Keymem 4 Gigabyte Compact Flash memory card I decided I needed one that was a bit faster in the write speed department. Having a faster write speed has an advantage when using continual shooting mode as it gives the camera more chance to keep up, being nearly 4 times faster than the Keymem brand but having the same capacity the Sandisc Extreme III was an obvious choice. Costing around £18 it is now cheaper to purchase than what the 1 Gigabyte Lexar Compact Flash card cost at the time.

Memory Card Specifications:

Card Type: Compact Flash Extreme III.
Manufacturer: Sandisc.
Memory Capacity: 4 Gigabytes.
Write Speed: 200 Times (30 MB/second approximately.
Dimensions: 42.5mm x 36.5mm x 4.0mm approximately.
Used With: Olympus E-500 & E-510 DSLR.

Fujifilm Smart Media
Memory Card:

The Fujifilm Smart Media memory card was one of the first card formats that was a step up from using a 3.5" Floppy Disc as a recording medium for data storage, in fact it was originally called the Solid State Floppy Disk Card (SSFDC). Unfortunately the cards were very expensive at the time for what they were, an 8 Megabyte card could cost up to £30 which was ridiculous compared to todays memory card prices.
The write speeds were none to hot either although most cameras would only record relatively small sized JPEG images so this was not so big an issue. This was just as well as the largest capacity Smart Media card produced was only 128 Megabytes. The Smart Media format was later replaced by the xD card. Smart Media cards are still available to purchase but they are fast disappearing and still very expensive.

Memory Card Specifications:

Card Type: Smart Media.
Manufacturer: Fujifilm, (Developed By Toshiba).
Memory Capacity: 8 Megabytes.
Write Speed: 13 Times (2 MB/second approximately).
Dimensions: 45.0mm x 37.0mm x 0.76 mm Approximately.
Used With: Fujifilm DX-10 & Fujifilm Finepix 2600 Zoom.

Olympus xD (Type H)
Memory Card:

The xD picture card! Supported by Olympus and Fujifilm it was the replacement format for the Smart Media card. Being smaller in physical size meant that cameras and other electrical items such as MP3 players could be made smaller as the loading bay for the card was smaller.
The cards were available in two main types, (type M and type H) type H having the faster write speed of the two.
A 1 Gigabyte type H xD card will cost around £11 at the moment, I use one in my Fujifilm Finepix 420 and as an alternative memory source in the Olympus DSLR cameras. They have double card slot bays that can take xD and Compact Flash cards although the xD card write speed is cosiderably slower than the Sandisc Extreme III Compact Flash card.

Memory Card Specifications:

Card Type: xD Picture Card (Type H).
Manufacturer: Olympus & Fujifilm.
Memory Capacity: 1 Gigabyte.
Write Speed: 27 Times (4 MB/second approximately).
Dimensions: 25.0mm x 20.0mm x 1.5mm approximately.
Used With: Olympus E-500, E-510 & Fujifilm Finepix 420.

Sandisc Memory Stick
PRO Duo:

The Sandisc Memory Stick PRO Duo is a smaller in physical size version of the Memory Stick PRO. Memory Stick PRO Duo is the preferred data recording medium for most Sony products although older items such ad the Sony Cybershot DSCW1 still use the larger sized Memory Stick PRO however the newer Memory Stick PRO Duo can still be used but requires an adapter. Costing around the £14 mark it is probably one of the more expensive cards you can buy especially if you purchase an official Sony branded card.

Memory Card Specifications:

Card Type: Memory Stick PRO Duo (Magic Gate).
Manufacturer: Sandisc.
Memory Capacity: 2 Gigabytes.
Write Speed: 100 Times (15 MB/second approximately).
Dimensions: 20.0mm x 31.0mm x 1.6mm approximately.
Used With: Sony Cybershot DSCW1 & Sony Cybershot DSCW170.

Sandisc Ultra II
Memory Stick PRO Duo:

I bought the 4 Gigabyte Sandisc Ultra II Memory Stick Pro Duo card with the intention of using it with my Sony Cybershot DSC-W170 the idea being that it was a faster card and that I could also fit more images on to the card with the camera set at its maximum quality setting of (10 Megapixel's). As it works out a freshly formatted card can record 1024 images according to the camera estimation but this could vary as some images can work out to be larger than others but it should manage about a 1000 images no problem. Current cost is around the £25 mark.

Memory Card Specifications:

Card Type: Memory Stick PRO Duo Ultra II (Magic Gate).
Manufacturer: Sandisc.
Memory Capacity: 4 Gigabytes.
Write Speed: 100 Times (15 MB/second approximately).
Dimensions: 20.0mm x 31.0mm x 1.6mm approximately.
Used With: Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 & Sony Cybershot DSC-W170.

Sandisc Memory Stick
PRO Duo Adaptor:

This Sandisc Memory Stick PRO Duo Adapter came supplied with the Sandisc Ultra II Memory Stick Pro Duo card and is used in conjunction with the Memory Stick Pro Duo card so it can be used in older Memory Stick PRO slot bays, an example of this is the Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 which uses the larger sized Memory Stick PRO.
Using this adapter you can use any sized Memory Stick PRO Duo card, (memory capacity size) as it is only a physical extention of the contacts on the memory card. Available to buy as an individual item if required they cost around £2.50 each.

Card Adapter Specifications:

Card Type Accepted: Memory Stick PRO Duo.
Manufacturer: Sandisc.
Memory Capacity: Dependent On Memory Card Used.
Write Speed: Dependent On Memory Card Used.
Dimensions: 50.0mm x 21.5mm x 2.5mm approximately.
Used With: Sony Cybershot DSC-W1.

Samsung "Mighty"
Pen Drive:

These devices are most handy when you want to transfer data from one PC to another. Larger files are easier to transfer this way as a network especially a wireless one could take quite a while to transfer the data. They are also a good means of storing image data for back up purposes which is the main reason I use them. Should you loose data from your PC you can retrieve it from your pen drive by way of the USB 2.0 ports.
Being of small size they are easily carried around in your pocket for that "just in case" moment. The 2 Gigabyte Samsung "Mighty" Pen Drive cost me a whopping great £24 at the time, you can pick them up for around £8 now.

Pen Drive Specifications:

Pendrive Type: "Mighty" Drive USB 2.
Manufacturer: Samsung.
Memory Capacity: 2 Gigabytes
Write Speed: 52 Times (8 MB/second approximately).
Dimensions: 69.0mm x 17.5mm x 7.0mm (With Top) approximately.
Used With: Desktop & Laptop PC's.

Sandisc Cruzer Micro
Pen Drive:

The Sandisc Cruzer Micro Pen Drive was purchased simply to increase memory storage space in this instance another 4 Gigabytes. The design of this particular pen drive has the USB connection plate retract inside the plastic body rather than a plastic cover found on other style pen drives.
Once again it is an ideal way to transfer and store data in all formats between different machines, costing £10 it wasn't exactly expensive.
This Pen Drive comes "Ready Boost" compatable and also boasts "U3" program technology! (Use links for Wikipedia description).

Pen Drive Specifications:

Pen Drive Type: Cruzer Micro USB 2.
Manufacturer: Sandisc.
Memory Capacity: 4 Gigabytes.
Write Speed: 60 Times (9 MB/second approximately).
Dimensions: 69.0mm x 21.0mm x 9.0mm (Open) approximately.
Used With: Desktop & Laptop PC's.

Sandisc Cruzer Titanium
Pen Drive:

The Sandisc Cruzer Titanium Pen Drive was again purchased to increase memory storage space in this instance another 8 Gigabytes. The design of this pen drive is the same as the Cruzer Micro only this time the USB connection plate retracts inside a Titanium body rather than a plastic one.
Again it is an ideal way to transfer and store data in all formats between different machines, at £17 these devices are becoming cheaper for more memory all the time.
This Pen Drive also comes "Ready Boost" compatable and also boasts "U3" program technology! (Use links for Wikipedia description).

Pen Drive Specifications:

Pen Drive Type: Cruzer Titanium USB 2.
Manufacturer: Sandisc.
Memory Capacity: 8 Gigabytes.
Write Speed: 60 Times (9 MB/second approximately).
Dimensions: 69.0mm x 20.0mm x 8.5mm (Open) approximately.
