I have strayed a bit from this project. Like Ace, I have actually been on a different project which is to recreate the SNES Mega Man X engine to nearly 100% accuracy. I started this mostly because I really wanted to get experience in platforming. I'm hoping to learn a number of things from this that I can carry over into this.

im in progress of making P-engine, a platform engine made by me, if you are interested. it supports things like slopes, collision setting, and platforms.
i will PM you about further progress if you are interested.

Yeah, by this point I really need support with tile-making or something. Plus, I need somebody good in interface programming because my current weapon select menu is absolutely horrendous. That and the number of other frustrating problems plaguing me such as the flame and laser lagging behind even though they're attached in the end step event.

For now, I've been having good success with my MMX engine (which is using a modified Zero Engine by the way) minus the game crashing when shooting in place which is absolutely stupid.

if you REALLY want to make something, i'd recommend you make it from scratch. that way it's way easier to understand how everything works, but i guess using that great and awesome zero engine helps too...

Well, that's what I was doing at first based off an even simpler engine but it was considerably frustrating. Plus, I learn faster from more advanced examples. However, you are right that I am missing out on the core pieces of it.

i just looked into ds_stacks, and i just found out how helpful they are. you can build up an array and record it, delete a certain array, insert one, anything!

Interesting. Would you know any detailed examples of its use? I was rather curious on what other data structure functions did.
